Accommodation

Whether camping site, vacation apartment, guesthouse or hotel - there are plenty of accommodation options along the INFERNO route.

Athlete briefing | Registration start

Athlete briefing

At the athletes' briefing on friday at 6.00 pm in Murren, final information on the route, the weather and the course of the race will be announced. Participation is strongly recommended for single athletes. There will be no athletes' briefing for couples and teams.

Registration start

Registration starts on november 11 at 11.11 am. We recommend you register online. The link is published directly on the start page at the time stated.

Award ceremony

The award ceremonies will take place at the Alpine Sports Center in Murren. Prizes will only be handed out in person.

Check-In

On Friday from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm in the transition zones Oberhofen (red bag with road bike equipment), Grindelwald (yellow bag with bike equipment) and Stechelberg (blue bag with running equipment).

Important: There is no check-in the day before for teams (Team Trophy & Couples)

Closing time

The closing time will be strictly adhered to for safety reasons. Participants will be removed from the race if they do not achieve the following passage times:

  • Transition zone Oberhofen | 08.15 am

  • Transition zone Grindelwald | 13.15 pm

  • Transition zone Stechelberg |16.30 pm

  • Alpines Sportzentrum Murren | 18.00 pm

  • Schilthorntraverse (Refreshment post) | 19.30 pm

  • Schilthorn (finish) | 20.30 pm

The following control closures apply to the half marathon:

  • Murren | 12.30 pm

  • Schilthorn (finish) | 14.45 pm

Clothes transport

Single athletes triathlon:

Half Marathon:

  • Clothes bags for transporting dry clothes to the Schilthorn will be handed out at the start.

Data-Chip

Data-Chip has to be worn around the left ankle at all times!
Singles: Data-Chip will handed out at the check-in in Oberhofen on friday.
Teams: Data-Chip will be handed out at the start in Thun on Saturday morning. The chip has to be handed over to the next athlete in the transition zone (after the red mat).

Day license

The INFERNO Triathlon requires a license. Day licenses can be purchased during online registration or at check-in in Oberhofen (payment on site in cash or by card). Foreign (annual) licenses are valid.

Driving restrictions

Motor vehicles are prohibited on the Grosse Scheidegg, Kleine Scheidegg and Grön (between Sigriswil and Beatenberg). No support vehicles are allowed on these routes.

Finisher

Each finisher is a winner!

Grosse Scheidegg

Take care on the steep and narrow descent from Grosse Scheidegg on a racing bike. Make way for oncoming post buses.

Headsets or headphones

Driving with headphones & headsets is not permitted.

Helmet

Wearing a hard-shell helmet is mandatory on both the road bike and MTB routes.

Isostar

Since the first INFERNO Triathlon in 1998, we and the athletes have been able to rely on the race catering provided by our partner Isostar.

Liability

Liability

The organizer may change the route at any time. The organizer is not obliged to refund the entry fee in the event of changes to the route or cancellation of the event due to force majeure.

Littering

Please throw away waste directly at the refreshment stations, otherwise carry it with you to the next station. Throwing away bottles or other waste outside the refreshment zones is prohibited and will result in disqualification.

Mountain Bike

The mountain bike course may only be completed with a mountain bike that complies with the regulations. This means no road racing handlebars, tire diameter at least 38mm (1.5"), no aerobars.

Mountain Run

No accompaniment and no poles are permitted on the mountain running course.

Overhead wind

Depending on the weather conditions, the treacherous upper wind on Lake Thun can turn the swim into an exhausting discipline.

Parking

Parking spaces for supporters will be signaled. Please pay particular attention to the exact details in the athletes' briefing, which will be available from August.

Preparation

Competing in a race like the INFERNO Triathlon requires thorough and serious preparation. Experienced INFERNO participants offer you their experience as part of the training planning.

Road bike

The road bike course takes place on public roads that are not closed off for the race. The Road Traffic Act applies. Violations will be punished with disqualification.

Schilthorn

Reaching the finish line on the Schilthorn triggers unforgettable feelings of happiness. Warning: danger of addiction!

Safety

The safety of the athletes is the top priority at INFERNO. The organizer reserves the right to change routes or cancel disciplines if the safety of all participants cannot be guaranteed.

Sunset

Insider tip from the race director: If the weather cooperates, the finishers who reach the finish on the Schilthorn after 20.00pm will experience beautiful sunsets!

Slipstreaming

Slipstreaming (also behind motorized vehicles, 35m drafting zone) is prohibited for all categories and will be punished with a time penalty (repeat offense: disqualification).

Start in Thun | Swiss Tri

Start in Thun

Travel to the start is by athlete bus from Stechelberg (Schilthornbahn valley station) - departure 4.50 am

It is also possible to travel to Thun by private car - signalized parking spaces are available behind the Hotel Holiday (Supporter parking lot). Arrival via A6 (exit Thun-Süd). Please arrive early, as only a limited number of parking spaces are available. Free parking only with 'Team Trophy' sticker until 9.00 am.

Swiss Tri

The INFERNO Triathlon and the Team Trophy are organized according to the regulations of the Swiss Triathlon Federation (www.swisstriathlon.ch). The race will be supervised by referees from Swiss Tri.

Support

The INFERNO participants are looking forward to the support of spectators along the route!

Swim-in | Replacement route

Preparation for swimming

Before the competition, the pools at Thun Lido are available for swimming in.

Replacement route

If the swimming discipline cannot be carried out due to the weather, a 3 km running course must be completed in Oberhofen. Single athletes are therefore asked to take their running clothes with them to the start in Thun if the weather is uncertain. All athletes will be transported to Oberhofen by boat from Thun Werft.

Torment

With its 5,500 meters of climbing, the INFERNO Triathlon is considered one of the toughest triathlons in the world. Along the way, it is quite possible that one or the other participant will have to struggle a little. But the finish is all the more beautiful and emotional afterwards.

Traffic rules

Traffic roules

The roads are not closed off, so there is zero tolerance for non-compliance with the traffic rules. Disregarding the instructions of the marshals or failing to comply with the traffic rules will result in immediate disqualification!

Transition zones

Transition zones

All equipment must be deposited in the transition zones in Oberhofen, Grindelwald and Stechelberg at check-in on Friday. The organizer will transport the participants' equipment to the Stechelberg transition zone after the race. The equipment can be collected here on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Wetsuit

A full-body wetsuit is mandatory for the swimming discipline.
