With 5,500 meters of climbing, the INFERNO Triathlon is one of the toughest in the world and is already considered a classic. The incomparable experience of nature in the unique mountain world of the Bernese Oberland and the family atmosphere make the INFERNO one of the most impressive competitions. And also with the best view to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau!

*The finish time will be strictly adhered to for safety reasons. Participants will be removed from the race if they do not achieve the following passage times on saturday:

  • 8.15h Oberhofen transition zone

  • 13.15h Grindelwald transition zone

  • 16.30h Stechelberg transition zone

  • 18.00h Alpine Sports Center Murren

  • 19.30h Schilthorn traverse (refreshment post)

Participation categories and staggered prizes: Experience the INFERNO Triathlon as a challenge for all age groups. Register early and secure your starting place!

Categories

2008 - 1992 HK (main class), of age on race day

1991 - 1982 AK1 (age group 1)

1981 - 1972 AK2 (age group 2)

1971 and older AK3 (age group 3)

The ranking list is drawn up separately for women and men. If there are fewer than 3 participants per category, the participants will be ranked in the next lower age group.

Entry fee

Included services: 2 rides on the Schilthorn cable car, pasta parties on Friday & Saturday.

Note: Optional bus transfer from Stechelberg to Thun (CHF 20.00 per person >> please select when registering).

Prize money

Prize money for women and men

1st place CHF 1'500.00

If fewer than 10 participants are classified, the prize money for 4th and 5th place will not be paid out. Withholding tax will be deducted for foreign participants.

The category winners will receive a commemorative prize.

Prizes in kind

Prizes in kind for men overall 6th-10th place and women 6th place as well as the top three finishers in each age group.


All finishers will receive the INFERNO triathlon finisher T-shirt. Participants who have to abandon the race due to the time limit will receive an INFERNO T-shirt.

Rules and notes

Competition rules of the INFERNO Triathlon

Reead more about the most important rules and regulations that apply to participation in the INFERNO Triathlon. Due to the alpine terrain, the competition places special demands on the athletes' equipment and personal responsibility. All participants should read and follow the rules carefully to ensure a safe and fair competition.

Registration/Cancellation

Start of registration

Registration starts on November 11 at 11.11 am. We recommend registering directly online - the links can be found directly on the start page at the time stated.

Deregistration

Cancellations for health reasons will be accepted if a medical certificate is presented. The entry fee will be refunded after deduction of a processing fee of CHF 50.

Doping ban

Doping is prohibited. Swiss Olympic Association may carry out doping controls.

Health and safety measures

The doctors and referees appointed by the organizer may remove participants from the race if there is a risk of damage to their health.

Helmet requirement

Helmets are compulsory for road and mountain bikes. The officially approved helmet is mandatory. This must be worn on the entire route (including uphill sections!).

Liability | Route changes

The organizer may change the route at any time. The organizer is not obliged to refund the entry fee in the event of changes to the route or cancellation of the event due to force majeure.

Wetsuit

A full-body wetsuit is mandatory for the swimming discipline. Neoprene gloves and booties may not be worn.

Regulations and referees

The INFERNO Triathlon follows the rules of the Swiss Triathlon Federation (tri) and is under the supervision of tri judges.

Day licenses

The INFERNO Triathlon requires a license. Day licenses can be purchased during online registration or at check-in in Oberhofen (payment on site in cash or by card). Foreign (annual) licenses are valid.

Traffic rules

The roads are not closed off, so there is zero tolerance for non-compliance with the traffic rules. Disregarding the instructions of the marshals or failing to comply with the traffic rules will result in immediate disqualification!

Slipstreaming

Slipstreaming (also behind motorized vehicles, 35m drafting zone) is prohibited for all categories and will be punished with a time penalty (repeat offense: disqualification).
