Inferno half marathon & relay race

With a climb of over 2000 metres, “The Devilish Mountain Race” is a tremendous challenge for all mountain runners.

Only well-trained and experienced mountain runners should take part in the INFERNO half-marathon and relay race. High demands are made on personal responsibility. As one example, it may be cold or even snow on competition day, thus requiring suitable clothing.

  • 08.00 - 09.45 Distribution of the start number and information at the Camping Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen
  • 08.00 - 09.30 Late registrations at the Camping Jungfrau
  • from 09.30 Start half-marathon in 3 blocks
  • 10.00 Start relay race in block 3
  • from approx. 11.20 First finishers half-marathon
  • 15.45 Close of finish at the Schilthorn
  • 15.30 Award ceremony at the Alpine Sports Center

The starting blocks in detail:

  • 09.30 Start block 1 (estimated running time up to 3h15)
  • 09.45 Start block 2 (estimated running time 3h15 to 4h)
  • 10.00 Start block 3 (estimated running time more than 4h incl. relay race)

The participants go independently to the starting block according to their estimated running time.

  • Parking: Parking spaces liable to charge at the Church of Lauterbrunnen
  • Start: Camping Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen

  • Finish: Showers, wardrobes and massage: at the Alpine Sports Center.

Competition rules

CIME regulations are valid. Use of spiked shoes and ski poles is expressly prohibited. Taking shortcuts will result in immediate disqualification.

Doping is prohibited.  The Swiss Olympic Association is authorized to carry out doping tests.

Entry fee

  • CHF 74.- for registrations till 31 January 2025
  • CHF 84.- for registrations till 30 June 2025
  • CHF 94.- for registrations till 9 August 2025
    • Registrations at the contest + CHF 20.-

Included in the entry fee: Returning with the Schilthorn aerial cableway or the mountain railway Lauterbrunnen – Mürren (the start number ist your ticket), 1x Pasta-Party, Finisher-T-Shirt, clothes handling, catering, samaritans, massage, ranking list.

In case of change of the routing or canellation of the event due to force majeure the organizer is not obligated to refund the starting fee.

Prizes

Prize money for women and men each:

  • 1st rank CHF 600.-
  • 2nd rank CHF 500.-
  • 3rd rank CHF 400.-
  • 4th rank CHF 200.-
  • 5th rank CHF 150.-
  • 6th rank CHF 100.-

Cash prizes will be awarded in accordance with the “overall classification”. Tax will be deducted at source for participants from outside Switzerland.

Natural prizes

The leading athletes of each category will receive attractive natural prizes (in addition to the prize money for rank 1 - 6). All finishers will receive a INFERNO Half-Marathon-Finisher-T-Shirt.

Clothes transport

  • Clothes bags will be distributed at the start for clothes required on the Schilthorn.
  • The private sportbags will be handled to the Alpine Sports Center Mürren.

Details relay race

Sections

Same route as the Half-marathon. A relay is made up of three runners who complete the following distances:

  • Lauterbrunnen - Grütschalp, 7.130 km, 690 m inclination
  • Grütschalp - Höhenlücke, 7.492 km, 415 m inclination
  • Höhenlücke - Schilthorn, 6.475 km, 1070 m inclination.

The handover in the handover area is made with the team ribbon that will be distributed with the start number.

  • CHF 130.- for registrations till 31 January 2025
  • CHF 140.- for registrations till 30 June 2025
  • CHF 150.- for registrations till 9 August 2025
    • Registrations at the contest + CHF 20.-

Included in the entry fee: Journey of the 2nd and 3rd runners to the transition areas, returning with the Schilthorn aerial cableway or the mountain railway Lauterbrunnen – Mürren (the start number ist your ticket), 3x Pasta-Party, INFERNO-T-Shirt, clothes handling, catering, samaritans, massage, ranking list.

  • The runners do have to organize the clothes handling to Grütschalp respectively Höhenlücke themselves.

3rd relay runner:
